The Imaginary Invalid!

This past weekend I saw The Imaginary Invalid in the JDHS auditorium and it was fantastic.  This is one of my favorite plays and I was so happy when I found out Mrs. Moore was putting it on.  I originally saw this play while we were in Scotland and we all fell in love with it.  The play is fun and silly, but also really sincere.  While watching it you find yourself laughing one moment and then holding in tears the next.  Of course the JDHS version was different than the one we saw in Scotland, but I loved all the things the director changed.

The play is about a hypochondriac named Art who is trying to marry off his daughter even though she is  in love with someone else.  Meanwhile, the ditzy stepmom is trying to steal all of Art's wealth.  When the bossy maid tries to make everything right chaos ensues.  The ending is bittersweet because everyone gets their happy ending except the maid and the man she was in love with.

The set was wonderful.  Quite frankly, it looked like someone ate the rainbow and then vomited on the stage.  I mean that in the nicest way possible.  They had a really unique fundraiser going on where all the actors painted and they were displayed as the set but were part of a silent auction.  My favorite painting was done by Lily D.  It was a really creative fundraiser.

The acting was surprisingly good.  There were two characters that I was disappointed in, but I won't get into that.  It was awesome to see Jared Vance blossom.  He did so well and was one of my favorite characters.  You should give him extra credit for how awesome and adorable he was.  Robert Newman was by far my favorite part though.  Everything he said was hilarious and the duet between him and Lydia was amazing.  Quin white also did a really good job.  Marina McDowel was fantastic and hilarious as well.
